Bio

Omar Robles - Puerto Rico 1980
My first connection with visual storytelling was in fact through the art of mime theatre. I had then the privilege of studying under the tutelage of Marcel Marceau at L’École Internationale de Mimodrame de Paris Marcel Marceau. Later, as I went to college to acquire my B.A in Communications and Arts, I discovered in photography a new way of telling stories without words. With photography however, I could immortalize the moments for a little longer. I have since explored as many areas of photography as I possibly can. Amongst all, I’ve found an immense passion for photojournalism. Some of my clients include lifestyle magazines Latino Leaders & Metro San Juan. Most recently I’ve been shooting with the Chicago Tribune’s Spanish publication Hoy, covering Arts & Entertainments and Sports.
Perspective:
The fascination of the human anatomy is an unassailable trait of modern man. Our bodies are bound by the connectivity between reason and form. My work as a photographer attempts precisely to frame the human form, the human condition and the nuances of the quotidian in visual aphorisms that make us think, feel or simply smile. These displays of visual narratives are injected by my experience as a professional physical actor. I studied at L'École Internationale Marcel Marceau in Paris from 2002-2004. Marceau was a mentor and an inspiration, and a photographer (in his own way) of the human body.
Visiting many corners of Europe was also an inspiration to venture into visual arts. I performed in Russia, Israel, Spain, New York and my native Puerto Rico, and along the way I collected photos that later became part of my portfolio. This anthropological style of photography evolved into photojournalism. In 2008, I became the arts and culture photographer for Metro San Juan, an English language publication and later had the privilege to work with the French fashion photographer Pascal Fontana, on national ad campaigns. Among the accolades I have received are several awards at the FotoMaratón competition in 2007 of the Caguas municipality in Puerto Rico. I was recently selected as a Finalist in Photographer's Forum Magazine 2011 Spring Contest and will be featured in their hardcover book BEST OF PHOTOGRAPHY 2011.
What drives my style of imagery is the transparent portrayal of the truth in its most detailed manner to draw the sensibility out of even the most perfunctory moments in time.
